AK Charters Copper Center

About KFAD

AK Charters isn’t a corporate operation. It’s a family business run by people who grew up on the banks of the Klutina River and chose to make this place their life’s work.

We purchased King For A Day Campground in 2015 after growing up on this very property. Now going into our 11th year of ownership, we’ve expanded from a campground with fishing charters into a full Alaskan adventure outfitter offering guided float trips, fishing lessons, ATV tours, kayaking expeditions, and scenic floats.

Thousands of happy guests later, we’re still here doing what we love. Families come back to “their spot” every single year. We watch kids grow up. We see first-time anglers become repeat visitors. And we get to share the river that shaped us with people from all over the world.

What Makes Our Guides Different

Family-owned since 2015. We grew up on the Klutina River and have been guiding here for 11 years. We’re the only charter company on the Klutina River owned by someone who grew up fishing here.

Our guides work with first-timers and experienced anglers. We’re serious about fishing, but we keep things relaxed and accessible for families.

Skylar Schenk

Lead guide
Skylar grew up on the Klutina, learning to floss from the ole’timers right here at King for a day. Going on to win casting contests and wetting a line at any opportunity. After moving away around high-school and attending collage for business, he decided to move back to where it all began. Now King for a Day is a Schenk Family owned and operated business since 2015 and continues to grow every year in services and stewardship. Skylar is dedicated to keeping the integrity of our waters for generations to come. You can always catch Skylar on the water or around camp. Always ready for fishing.

Jaxon Rondeau

Guide
Jaxon began driving at KFAD the summer of 2023 with his mom Sereta. Jaxon showed an amazing skill for fishing and an all around love for KFAD. Jaxon became quite close with Skylar and asked if he could become a guide. Unaware if someone at his then age of 14 could guide legally. Jaxon took the time to write to the ADF&G to inquire about becoming a guide. Jaxon called and transferred to as many people as he needed to get the answer… YES!! He did what he needed to do and filed his paperwork and became the youngest registered guide in Alaska. Jaxon is now 16 and has folks from all over the world coming to fish with him! You can too! Have a lesson or float the Gulkana with him. You will catch Jax on the water year after year at KFAD!

Ryan Silva

Guide
Ryan joined the KFAD crew from Washington State in 2025 and quickly became family. Ryan is passionate about fishing and the outdoors. As a father of 3 he feels a deep connection to preserving our waters and teaching younger generations. Ryan thrives off of the ability to share the connection to Alaska with other families whether pulling Kings, Sockeyes or a gorgeous dolly, helping to share the moment of just slowing down and appreciating the world around you. Ryan says “My first season was a turning point- each challenge and each success gave me a deeper appreciation. Under the endless daylight, surrounded by wildlife, I found a sense of purpose-and I’m honored to help others create those same memories.”

Sereta Morse

Guide & Yoga Instructor
Sereta grew up fishing on the waters of Washington state and move to Alaska in 2022 to run a fishing preserve on the Gulkana river. After fishing & driving for charters the summer of ’23 on the Klutina, Skylar offered her a guide position the following summer and she couldn’t say no. Now 3 years later she is bringing her Yoga to the river! Introducing Paddle & Pose, where balance meets the current with overnight yoga retreats on the Gulkana river. You can catch Sereta on the water with either pole or a mat.
